Niger Delta youth leader, Comrade Lucky O O Ukueku
Comrade Lucky O. O. Ukueku, a prominent Niger Delta youth leader, convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Ughelli, Delta State, to address growing concerns surrounding the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and calls for the removal of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Administrator.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Comrade Ayebapreye Broadfield, Ukueku explained that the purpose of the meeting was to gather firsthand opinions from key stakeholders on the ongoing agitation.
Speaking during the engagement, Ukueku expressed strong support for Tantita Security, noting that the company has made significant contributions to both Nigeria and the Niger Delta region. He emphasised that his position was objective, as he is not a beneficiary of the company.
“Though I am not a beneficiary of Tantita Company despite being a leader, I must say it has done remarkably well for Nigeria and the Niger Delta in many ways,” he stated.
Ukueku further observed that other companies with larger contracts under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) have not faced similar scrutiny despite not meeting their mandate. He attributed the criticism directed at Tantita to misinformation, lack of exposure, and envy toward Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (popularly known as Tompolo).
He urged the few individuals calling for the termination of the contract to search their consciences, stressing the importance of unity among Niger Deltans and the need to Instead collectively advocate for more federal opportunities that can improve the welfare of youths in the region rather than destroying the ones we already have.
On the leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Ukueku commended Dr. Dennis Burtu Otuaro for his performance, particularly in the areas of scholarships and human capital development.
“Since the inception of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, we have not witnessed commendable leadership such as that of Dr. Otuaro,” he remarked.
Ukueku also criticized what he described as an “entitlement mentality” among some individuals in the region, warning that internal conflicts and lack of unity could undermine collective progress. He questioned the rationale behind calls for leadership changes without viable alternatives, noting that such actions could trigger further unrest.
He concluded by appealing to the Federal Government, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to disregard calls for the termination of Tantita’s pipeline surveillance contract and the removal of the PAP Administrator.
According to Ukueku, those instigating unrest in the Niger Delta are working against the success of the current administration and the overall development of the region especially at this time of elections.
