Late singer Destiny Boy
An autopsy report has revealed the cause of death of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer, Afeez Adesina, aka Destiny Boy, Daily Trust reports.
Destiny Boy, a promising young Afrofuji artist known for blending traditional Yoruba Fuji sounds with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026, in what has been described as controversial circumstances, triggering outrage and demand for an autopsy.
Following his death, videos shared widely on social media showed what appeared to be his body being transported to a mortuary, triggering rumours about what may have led to his death.
In one of the videos, the artiste was seen lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
An attempt to clarify the circumstances surrounding his passing was later made in a separate video by an unidentified associate, who said the singer had been battling a private health challenge.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.
Family members said the singer had been living with a long-term illness, which they said caused him to have seizures.
In an online video, his mother, Saida, stated that the family had sought both medical and traditional treatment for the condition.
Social media commentators, while sending condolence messages, also questioned the circumstances of his death.
Following the controversy, the Ogun State Police Command later disclosed the arrest of one suspect in connection with his death.
The command also said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation.
In a statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
Autopsy Report, Two Months After
Findings revealed that the case file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice, but pending the advice, the Police Homicide Section conducted an autopsy.
It was further gathered that the autopsy report was released about a week ago.
When contacted on Friday, the Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the autopsy report had been released.
According to him, the report revealed harmful levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine, in the deceased’s body,
The report concluded that the cause of death was “aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances.”
The terse statement made available to Daily Trust reads: “The Consultant Anatomic Pathologist reported that toxicology results revealed harmful levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine, and opined that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances, with the date of death being 17/01/2026.”
The singer began to gain prominence after releasing his Fuji cover of Davido’s ‘If’ in 2019, which attracted massive traction on social media.
He also delivered covers of songs by artistes like Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
Destiny Boy also released songs such as ‘Lamba’, ‘One Transaction’, ‘Gbese’, ‘Billion Dollar’, ‘Mio Gbonkankan’, and ‘Lowkey’.
