Jo’burg calling: Nigerian delegates, others warm up for IABC brand communicators’ conference

An “Alignment Lab” experiment to find out how gaining consensus helps communicate brands would be one of the key sessions as Nigerian delegates prepare to join others across Africa at the 20th Africa Regional Summit of the International Association of Business Communicators holding in Johanesburg October 23-25.

Keynote speaker Michael Ambjorn, founder of the London-based Align Your Org, would run the alignment lab described as “live and learning at warp speed how alignment to a clear purpose can lead to consensus-driven results” as well as “tips and tricks about people-centred methodologies to drive successful change.”

Ambjorn is a director on IABC’s International Executive Board and has previously served as chair of IABC Europe & Middle East. He has worked across four continents for companies like IBM and Motorola, but also locally in South Africa in a strategy advisory and communication capacity for The Bateleurs, City Year and the Wilderness Foundation.

IABC Nigeria Chapter President Chido Nwakanma announced last Thursday (September 26) at the end of the IABC Nigeria September Monthly Breakfast Meeting that the association is processing requests for participation by interested members as well as non-members who wish to join. Prospective members can take advantage of a reduced combined conference and membership fee of $750, he said.

The Africa Regional Conference is one of several conferences by regional chapters of the association. IABC helps members “identify, share and apply the world’s most effective communication practices” through thought leadership, publications, networking, conferences and cutting-edge research. Founded in 1970, the International Association of Business Communicators provides a professional network of about 15,000 business communication professionals in over 80 countries.

Members hold positions in corporate communication; public and media relations; public affairs; investor relations; advertising; community relations; editing; photography and video production; graphic design; marketing communication; human resource management; training; writing; and teaching, among others.

Through its strong professional network, IABC enables members make a bigger impact on their jobs, find the hidden job market, enhance skills, find clients and find friends.
