Deputy National Chairman (South), of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Annie Okonkwo, has defended his resignation as the Chairman/Campaign Coodinator for Anambra governorship election, saying it has nothing to do with his membership of the party.
Okonkwo stated this in Lagos during an interview with journalists.
Speaking on his resignation, Okonkwo said: “As the Deputy National Chairman (South), of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), my job is not just to see about Anambra State but since I was appointed the Chairman/Campaign Coordinator for Anambra governorship election, I have not been able to visit other states of Southern Nigeria and the 2015 election is approaching.”
According to him, “I need to visit other states of the South to sensitise the people of the area more about our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”
The Sixth Republic Senator however, disclosed that his action was for the interest of the party, adding that he is still committed and loyal to the party.
Okonkwo whom many believe has sacrificed a lot for the party, said he has never regretted anything he has done for APC and that he will continue to do more. Okonkwo also promised that he will always make himself available for the party and will always involve in anything that would move the party forward.
