Fire service operatives
Operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service have rescued a knife-wielding man from a deep well in the Owutu area of Ikorodu.
The agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, said the incident was reported at about 7am on Sunday.
She explained that responders from the Ikorodu Fire Station found the man inside the well, armed with a knife and resisting rescue efforts.
A video from the scene showed the victim alleging he had been assaulted while sleeping before the incident.
“The team had to adopt caution as the victim engaged in evasive behaviour while holding a knife. Officers of the Nigeria Police, Owutu Division, provided support during the operation,” she said.
Adeseye later confirmed that the man was successfully rescued alive.
The agency also responded to two separate fire incidents earlier in the day.
One occurred at an abandoned warehouse in Ikeja, where firefighters forced entry into a locked premises to contain the blaze.
No casualties were recorded.
Another fire incident was reported at a power facility in Surulere, linked to a snapped lightning arrestor. The situation was brought under control without casualties. (The PUNCH)
