The Presidency has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, describing the trip as a strategic move to attract investment, create jobs, and broaden economic opportunities for Nigerians.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the visit aligns with the administration’s broader objective of repositioning Nigeria for growth through active global engagement.
In a statement shared via his verified X handle, @BwalaDaniel, Bwala dismissed criticisms surrounding the trip, stressing that meaningful development cannot be achieved through isolation.
“Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting,” he stated.
He explained that the President’s engagements in the United Kingdom were deliberately structured to open new economic frontiers for Nigeria, particularly in the areas of foreign direct investment and employment generation.
“This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people,” Bwala added.
According to the presidential aide, the visit has also reinforced longstanding bilateral ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with fresh commitments to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
He noted that the reception accorded to President Tinubu by the British monarchy reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s economic trajectory and global relevance.
“His Majesty, King Charles III has shown practicable commitment to partner with Nigeria on areas of mutual trust,” Bwala said.Bwala further emphasised that President Tinubu’s international engagements are part of a deliberate strategy to elevate Nigeria’s voice and visibility on the global stage.
“President Tinubu is making sure Nigeria is seen, heard, and respected on the world stage. That’s how you move a country forward, not by staying quiet,” he stated.
The Presidency maintained that sustained diplomatic outreach and international collaboration remain critical to advancing Nigeria’s economic ambitions, strengthening partnerships, and unlocking new opportunities for national development. (The Nation)
