The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday led the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Kofar Mata Eid Ground, marking the end of Ramadan.

In a break from tradition, the Emir came out on foot from the Gidan Rumfa palace for the Hawan Idi procession, following government restrictions on horse parades.

He arrived through designated routes and led thousands of worshippers in prayers.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, SSG Umar Farouk Ibrahim, and other top officials attended, though Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo was absent, reportedly observing prayers with NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his residence.

After prayers, Sanusi addressed the crowd at Kofar Kwaru, thanking Allah for the peaceful completion of Ramadan.

He urged residents to sustain the virtues of patience, charity and discipline, and called for peace and unity.

The emir warned youths against violence, encouraging them to pursue knowledge and skills, and admonished traders to avoid arbitrary price hikes.

He prayed for traders who lost goods in recent market fires and reminded parents to guide their children responsibly.

The Emir commended Governor Yusuf’s infrastructural projects and efforts against thuggery, urging citizens to support the administration.

He concluded with prayers for lasting peace in Kano and northern Nigeria, and for victims of the recent Borno blast.

Meanwhile, the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, held separate Eid prayers at his Nasarawa palace.

The event drew a large crowd of title holders, scholars and residents.

In his brief address, Bayero thanked Allah for Ramadan, urged unity and law-abiding conduct, and called for peaceful coexistence.
