Gov Oborevwori
The National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O.O Ukueku, has criticised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for neglecting Uto communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Ukueku in a statement issued on Thursday said that the communities, comprising Assah, Edjeko, Etefe, Omafuvwe, and Olodiama, protested during the Governor’s visit to commission the Ohoro-Bomadi road, but he failed to address them.
“It is unfortunate that the Governor couldn’t stop to address the people who once voted for him without no single appointee,” Ukueku said, questioning whether the lack of representation in the administration is the reason for the neglect.
Ukueku recalled a similar protest during former Governor Okowa’s tenure, which led to the Governor addressing the issue of Orere bridge, linking the five communities. However, the contract was awarded to Chief J.U Oguma, who allegedly prioritized Orere Community due to an Anglican Bishop’s influence, neglecting other communities.
Ukueku alleged that Chief Oguma only engages these communities during politics, ignoring them afterwards. He demanded the Uto Ewu axis community road contract be removed from Oguma, citing neglect. Ukueku commended the protesters, particularly elderly women, and warned neglect could lead to 2027 dissatisfaction.
Ukueku noted Okowa’s experience with Oguma, who failed to deliver despite contracts, should serve as a lesson. “PDP failed in Ughelli South LGA during the 2023 elections, and such mistakes will still repeat itself by APC led government come 2027,” he said.
