Victor Osimhen is facing a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his arm during Galatasaray’s heavy defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The Nigerian forward sustained the injury in Wednesday’s 4–0 second-leg loss at Anfield, which saw Liverpool progress 4–1 on aggregate.
A statement from Galatasaray on Thursday confirmed that Osimhen suffered a fracture to his right forearm following hospital examinations.
A club statement released on Thursday confirmed the severity of the injury:
“Our player Victor Osimhen… suffered a fracture to his right forearm, which has been put in a cast. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days after further examinations.”
The Injury occurred early in the match after a collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during an aerial challenge, with the Frenchman landing on Osimhen’s arm.
Galatasaray said the arm has been placed in a cast, with a decision on whether surgery will be required to be made after further medical assessments in the coming days.
The club did not disclose a recovery timeline for the striker, who has been a key figure this season with seven goals in the competition. (BusinessDay)
