Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State have seized 75,000 capsules of pregabalin, 556 bottles of codeine, and quantities of cannabis sativa in a major anti-drug operation.
The seizure was carried out by the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command in the Badawa area following credible intelligence about planned distribution of illicit drugs ahead of the Sallah celebrations.
Spokesperson of the command, Sadiq Maigatari, said the operation disrupted what would have been a significant supply of drugs into illegal markets across the state.
He disclosed that although the prime suspect is currently at large, he is under surveillance and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
“Although the prime suspect remains at large, he is currently under careful surveillance and every effort is being made to effect his arrest and bring him to justice,” Maigatari said.
The agency described the seizure as a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the state.
“This seizure is a serious blow to the cartel’s network and protects the good people of Kano from the harms of these illicit substances,” the statement added.
The command reiterated its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking in line with directives from the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd).
It assured that the agency would continue its efforts toward achieving a drug-free society.
The NDLEA also appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and urged residents to continue providing useful information to aid ongoing operations.
“The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command thanks members of the public for the ongoing cooperation that makes such operations possible and urges residents to continue to provide actionable intelligence,” the statement said. (Arise News)
