Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has dissolved the Ministry of Higher Education, effectively removing his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from his position as commissioner.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, who said the move formed part of broader reforms in the state’s education sector.

According to the statement, the restructuring aims to strengthen coordination, eliminate duplication of responsibilities and reduce the cost of governance.

The development comes amid rising political tension following an impeachment notice reportedly served on the deputy governor by the Kano State House of Assembly.

The impeachment move is believed to be linked to political differences after Gwarzo allegedly declined to join Governor Yusuf in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Under the new restructuring, the Ministry of Higher Education will be merged into the Ministry of Education, which will now oversee all education-related functions in the state.

A specialised Directorate of Higher Education will be created within the ministry to manage tertiary education activities.

The directorate will be headed by a Permanent Secretary and supported by relevant personnel to ensure the effective administration of higher education institutions.

The statement explained that agencies previously under the now-defunct ministry, including the Scholarship Board, would return to the Ministry of Education.

State-owned universities and other higher education institutions will also be supervised by the new directorate under the merged ministry.

Governor Yusuf said the restructuring was designed to enhance efficiency, improve accountability and strengthen the overall quality of education administration in Kano State.

He reiterated that his administration remains committed to implementing reforms aimed at revitalising the education sector and improving opportunities for young people.

The governor also directed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to ensure the immediate and seamless realignment of the affected ministries and departments. (AriseNews TV)
