Herders in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue have repelled an attack by suspected bandits and recovered a locally fabricated firearm abandoned during the encounter.
Police sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Buruku at about 4:30 p.m. on March 11.
According to the report, the attack occurred on March 10 when suspected bandits from the Sankera axis confronted some herders grazing on a cassava farm belonging to Kwagh Orshio A. Gande of Tse Agbatar community in Binev Council Ward of the LGA.
The herders reportedly resisted the attack and engaged the assailants in a fierce confrontation, forcing them to flee the area.
During their escape, the attackers abandoned a locally fabricated revolver gun at the farm.
Following the report, the DPO in Buruku mobilised patrol teams in collaboration with Operation Anyam Nyor security outfit and visited the scene, where the firearm was recovered.
Police sources said no life was lost during the encounter, while efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects for possible arrest. (Zagazola)
