The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN
By ITOHAN ABARA-LASERIAN
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says its firefighters’ training programme will combine virtual learning with classroom instruction and practical field exercises.
The clarification is contained in a statement by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, on Thursday in Lagos.
Agbebire responded to media reports that the Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA) opposed an online training programme by the authority.
He explained that the hybrid model integrates virtual learning, classroom instruction and practical field exercises within a structured six-week training period.
“The hybrid or blended approach reflects modern global training practices and is designed to strengthen, not weaken, the competence of Airport Rescue and Firefighting personnel.
“While theoretical components may be delivered virtually to improve efficiency and participation, hands-on drills and live simulations remain a core part of the programme.
“FAAN emphasises the training framework fully complies with ICAO Annex 14 and NCAA Advisory Circular provisions requiring practical drills, exercises and simulations,” Agbebire said.
He added that the hybrid model would enable FAAN to train more personnel efficiently while maintaining airport operations without compromising safety standards or readiness. (NAN)
