The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has described the administration of Bola Tinubu as the worst in the history of Nigeria, saying the country needs a “clean political break” ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview, Adebayo criticised the current government’s policies and leadership style, arguing that the nation is experiencing the consequences of poor governance.
According to him, the present administration represents what he called a “historic disaster,” adding that Nigerians are witnessing the most severe effects of bad governance under the current leadership.
“There are three reasons he is the worst president. One, he is the one in charge now where we have the most possible impact of bad governance. Two, he is doing it in a manner that is not just incompetent, but an organised agenda to try to personalise the country and create a Bola Tinubu singularity,” Adebayo said.
The SDP chieftain said Nigeria requires a new political direction, insisting that the opposition must present credible alternatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adebayo also addressed issues surrounding the preparedness of opposition parties, the performance of the Tinubu administration, and controversies linked to the Electoral Act, stressing that reforms are necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process.
He maintained that Nigerians are increasingly demanding accountability and better governance, urging political actors to focus on policies that address the country’s economic and social challenges rather than personal interests.
The former presidential candidate said the coming years will be critical for Nigeria’s democratic future, noting that citizens must play an active role in shaping the leadership that will emerge in 2027. (TRIBUNE)
