The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the implementation of an Exit Benefit Scheme that will grant retiring federal civil servants a gratuity equivalent to 100% of their total annual emolument.
The scheme, which takes effect from January 1, 2026, is aimed at strengthening the welfare structure of the federal civil service and ensuring that officers who have served the nation for a minimum of 10 years retire with improved financial security.
According to the Federal Government, the Exit Benefit Scheme is designed to complement the existing Contributory Pension Scheme by providing an additional financial safety net for retiring civil servants.
The scheme will apply to federal civil servants in treasury-funded ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies.
Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, commended the Federal Executive Council for approving the initiative.
She described the scheme as a recognition by the administration of President Bola Tinubu of the dedication, sacrifice and professionalism of federal civil servants. (Radio Nigeria)
