A truck loaded with chippings has rammed into a residential building in Iho, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo, killing a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Chioma Ogu, and leaving her husband seriously injured.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred late Monday night when residents had retired to their homes.
The truck, said to be in motion at the time, allegedly veered off the road and crashed into the building where the couple was residing.
Sources in the area told journalists that the driver was suspected to have fallen asleep while driving, leading to a loss of control before the vehicle ploughed into the house.
The deceased, a mother of three, was said to have been making preparations for the burial of her late mother scheduled for this weekend before the unfortunate incident cut her life short. Her husband, who sustained injuries in the crash, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Residents described the incident as shocking and devastating, noting that the impact of the crash caused significant structural damage to the building.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the Imo State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, did not respond to calls as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the accident, while investigations are expected to commence to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. (TRIBUNE)
