The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has raised alarm over declining discipline and professionalism in some of its field commands across the country.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, raised the concern during a sensitisation visit to the Anambra Command in Awka on Tuesday.
Mohammed, represented by Assistant Corps Marshal, Winifred Chukwurah, Commandant, FRSC Academy, Udi, Enugu State, said recent operational reports had revealed troubling trends of misconduct and unethical practices by some personnel.
He also cited cases of abuse of authority, extortion and reckless enforcement behaviour, describing the development as worrisome and unacceptable.
He described the development as a serious threat to the credibility and integrity of the Corps.
According to him, such actions not only violate the Corps’ regulations and core values but also erode public trust, which he says remains the foundation of the agency’s mandate.
“Every act of unprofessional conduct damages the image of thousands of disciplined officers and weakens the confidence Nigerians have built in the Corps over the years,” he said.
The Corps Marshal warned that indiscipline and unethical behaviour would no longer be tolerated.
He stressed that decisive steps were being taken to restore order, reinforce accountability and strengthen command and control mechanisms in all commands.
He reiterated that extortion, harassment and abuse of authority were illegal and a betrayal of the oath sworn by personnel, adding that discipline and professionalism should remain non-negotiable in the service.
Mohammed urged officers and men to recommit themselves to the ideals of integrity, fairness and respect for human dignity in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier in her address, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, urged officers to take the charge of the Corps Marshal seriously. (NAN)
