NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi
President Bola Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Ahmed Audi as commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term, effective from Friday, February 27, according to a statement issued by the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The reappointment comes just as Audi’s initial term, handed to him by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021, concluded last Friday amid celebrations for the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja. He is set to resume duties on Monday with a strengthened mandate.
President Tinubu has tasked Audi with repositioning the NSCDC to boost national security. “President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists,” the release stated.
A native of Laminga Town in Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, the 58-year-old Audi boasts a robust academic background. Born on September 30, 1967, he earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987, followed by a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical and health education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1995), a master’s In public administration from the University of Calabar (2001), a PhD in public administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (2014), and a master’s in law enforcement and criminal justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2019).
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996, completing basic officer training in 1997 and serving initially as a divisional officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. His career progressed through various state commands, culminating in his promotion to commandant in 2007 and deployment to the commandant-general’s office at the national headquarters in Abuja.
