Rep Ikwechegh
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The lawmaker representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in a move that is expected to stir political reactions in Abia State.
Ikwechegh, popularly known as Onyeocha N’Aba, announced his decision in a letter addressed to his ward chairman, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I respectfully submit my resignation from my membership of the party APGA effective immediately,” the lawmaker wrote in the brief letter issued on his official House of Representatives letterhead.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve under its platform, thanking it for the support he received during his membership.
Ikwechegh also wished the party “continued progress and success in its future endeavours.”
Although the letter did not state the reasons for his departure, the development is likely to reshape political alignments in Aba, where the federal lawmaker commands considerable grassroots support.
Elected into the House of Representatives on the APGA platform, Ikwechegh has been active in legislative debates and constituency projects since assuming office.
As of the time of filing this report, the leadership of APGA had yet to issue an official response to his resignation.
