Governor Fubara
The stage is set for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward the list of 20 commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, it was learnt yesterday.
The list of the nominees, according to sources, was drawn up in line with the agreement between the governor, elders and political leaders in the state.
A source told The Nation in confidence that was a product of an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held by Nyesom Wike’s political family at the weekend.
According to the source, House of Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule, was among the elders and leaders who attended the meeting, which held in one of the elders’ residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The source said: “The list was harmonised at the weekend during a meeting between the governor, the state’s elders and leaders. We do not envisage any more crisis because the parties have agreed to work together.
“The list contained 20 nominees and the governor is expected to send it to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
“The list would be sent any moment from now. I was told it was an all-inclusive document designed to capture all interests.
“You should also expect that persons, who played principal roles in the election of the governor would dominate the list.”
But the source informed that the names of some persons believed to have engineered the crisis and fanned the embers of discord, including a sacked council chairman, were removed from the list.
It was gathered that the Assembly would soon reconvene after taken delivery of the list to begin the screening and confirmation of the nominees. (The Nation)
