The Controller of Corrections, Zamfara State Command, Muhammad Juta, has reiterated the importance of skills acquisition as a vital tool for effective rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
The Controller made this known during an official tour of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Gusau, and the Nigerian Correctional Officers Wives Association (NICOWA) School, Gusau. He said the visit was aimed at assessing facilities, interacting with officers and inmates, and evaluating ongoing rehabilitation and welfare programmes.
Addressing inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, CC Muhammad stressed that vocational training and educational programmes remain central to the Nigerian Correctional Service’s mandate of reform, rehabilitation, and reintegration. He encouraged inmates to take full advantage of available skills acquisition programmes, noting that such skills would enable them to become self-reliant and productive citizens upon release.
The Controller commended officers at the custodial centre for their dedication to duty and urged them to sustain professionalism and humane treatment in line with established correctional standards.
During an inspection at NICOWA School, Gusau, CC Muhammad Juta, expressed satisfaction with the learning environment and the commitment of teachers to providing quality education. He acknowledged the role of NICOWA in supporting the welfare of officers’ families and contributing to educational development within the Command.
The tour Is a routine Inspection of Correctional formation in the command by the State Controller of Corrections and underscores the Command’s commitment to strengthening rehabilitation programmes, improving inmates’ welfare, and promoting education and skills development as cornerstones of a modern correctional system.
