The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is planning to spend N8.75bnbn worth of solar projects across communities in Kano and Oyo States.

According to the details of the 2026 proposed budget, the agency wants to spend N504.77bn of which N502.21bn will be for capital expenditure and

Analysis of the budget shows the agency planned to spend N5.95bn on projects in Kano State, where its Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, hails from.

The REA budgeted N3.5bn for the “supply and installation of solar street lights in different locations in Rano/Bunkur/Kibiya/Sumaila/Takai/Karaye / Rogo/Doguwa/Tudunwada Local Government Kano State.”

It also budgeted N350m for the provision of grid extension projects in underserved communities in Kano State. Another N350m was set aside for the provision of solar street lights in security challenged locations in Kano State.

Also, it wants to spend N350m for the provision of solar street lights for economic boosting in Kano State and N350 million for the electrification of underprivileged communities in Kano State.

Similarly, it said N350 million will be for the provision of transformers and installation of solar street lights for underprivileged communities in Dawakin Tofa and environs, in Kano State with another N350 million for the provision of transformers and installation of solar street lights for underprivileged communities in Tofa and environs, in Kano State.

It further planned to facilitate the provision of transformers and installation of solar street lights for underprivileged communities in Rimin Gado and environs, in Kano State with N350 million.

In Oyo State, where the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, hails from, N2.8 billion was allocated for various projects in the state.

A breakdown showed that the agency would spend N350 million on the electrification and provision of solar street lights in local government areas in Oyo State with another N350 million for the provision of solar mini grid solution for LGAs in the state.

Another N350 million is proposed for provision of solar mini grid for farmers within selected communities in Oyo State while electrification and provision of solar street lights in Kudeti, Oyo State will gulp N350 million.

Also, N350m will be for the electrification and provision of solar street lights in underprivileged communities in Oyo State and N350 million for provision of grid extension projects in underserved communities in Oluyole community and environs in Oyo State.

It also wants to spend N350 million for the provision of solar street lights in security challenged locations in Egbeda community and environs in Oyo State with another N350 million for the provision of renewable energy solutions in unserved locations in Ona-Ara community and environs in Oyo State.

Army to spend N945m on roads, schools in Rivers State

Despite insecurity that has ravaged several communities, the Nigerian Army is planning to spend N945 million on roads and schools in River State.

The Army which got N1.5trn from the N3.15trn budgeted for the 23 agencies under the Ministry of Defence said the projects will be constructed by the Army’s Engineering unit.

The details disclosed that it wants to do the construction of selected roads in Rumuokwurusi Town, Obio/Akpor LGA with the sum of N140 million while construction of internal roads in Rumuodani, Elelenwo Town, Rivers State was allocated N280 million.

It also wants to engage in the reconstruction of Rumuibekwe Town Bypass and drainage to SPDC main drain with the sum of N140 million.

Also, N70 million will be used for the construction of Rumuchuku/Rumuekara Lane in Rumuokwuta Town, Rivers State with another N70m for the construction of Ohekwe/Obi Wali Road, Mgbuogba Town, Rivers State.

Similarly, it wants to use N105 million for the completion of ongoing construction of bridge in Bori-Kor, Khana LGA in Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Rivers State while N140 million will be for rehabilitation of selected schools in Eliozu Community Rivers State.

Tinubu, Shettima to spend N9.4bn on trips, food

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, will spend a sum of N9.4bn on local and foreign trips as well as food in 2026, analysis of the proposed 2026 budget has shown.

A breakdown of the budget showed that the president will spend a total of N7.44 billion with N6.14 billion on foreign trips while N873.88 million was set aside for domestic trips.

Also, he will spend N375.18 million on food stuff/catering materials supplies with another N56.432 million set aside for refreshment and meals.

the Vice President, he will spend a total of N1.91 billion on the same item with N1.31bn for international travel & transport: others while local travel & transport: others will gulp N417.48 million.

Also, N171m will be spent on food stuff/catering materials supplies with N14.99m going on refreshment & meals.

Villa to spend N11.2bn on cars

Meanwhile, the document stated that the State House will spend N11.2bn to purchase motor vehicles while N3.84bn will go for the “purchase of hello spares/maintenance.”

It also planned to spend N2.86bn for international travel & transport: others with honorarium and sitting allowance to gulp N2.1bn while refreshment & meals will cost N150m and the purchase of office furniture and fittings will cost N2.56bn.

Ministry of Finance, Works, Budget, Defence, Education, Health get highest budget

The Ministry of Finance got the highest share of the budget with an allocation of N16.78trn. This is followed by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning with the sum of N9.1trn.

The Federal Ministry of Works got the sum of N3.48trn. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare got N2.14trn while the Ministry of Education got N2.14trn.

Also, the Federal Ministry of Defence got N3.15trn while Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gets N1.013 trillion. (Daily Trust)
