Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, likened his position in the upcoming 2026 governorship election to playing a penalty shot at a goalpost without a goalkeeper.
Speaking during an interactive session with youths from the three senatorial districts in Osogbo yesterday, Oyebamiji expressed confidence that the APC will win the election on August 8. He highlighted the importance of youths participation in elections and pledged to create programs specifically catering to their needs.
“We conducted a demographic analysis of the 2022 election and found that party members voted 300,000, with youths comprising 210,000 of that number. I respect the youth immensely, and by God’s grace, there will be special programs for you starting very soon.”
In his metaphorical statement, Oyebamiji said, “God has given us a goal post and penalty without a goalkeeper.” He emphasised his belief in an unchallenged path to victory and urged party members to engage in grassroots campaigning. “Let us go to our ward and begin house-to-house, door-to-door. I don’t have a competitor. APC does not have a competitor.”
Oyebamiji assured the youth that his administration would provide them with the resources necessary to succeed, stating, “We are serious about this assignment. We are taking over by the grace of God.” He encouraged them not to fear, emphasizing that their efforts would not be in vain.
Goke Akinwemimo, state youth leader, called on Oyebamiji to prioritize youth inclusion if elected governor. He reminded attendees of the legacy of the former governor, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, who fostered a culture of youth involvement during his administration.
Akinwemimo urged Oyebamiji to continue this momentum throughout the campaign and into governance. (The Sun)
