SP Bright Edafe, Delta Police spokesperson
A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody by the police in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, for allegedly killing his brother.
The suspect, identified as Aliyu Haman, was arrested after allegedly stabbing his brother to death last Thursday at Poly Road by Adaigbo Filling Station in the town while he was asleep.
Although no motive has been established for the murder, the police said the suspect was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Sunday:
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okoyomon, promptly mobilised detectives to the scene.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed by his brother, Aliyu Haman (male, 20 years).
“The suspect was arrested, and the weapon used in committing the crime was recovered.
“The corpse was evacuated and deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi-Uku, for autopsy. The suspect is in custody and investigation is ongoing.”
The statement further disclosed the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, who was found in possession of 36 bottles of illicit drugs popularly known as “laughing gas.”
Acting on credible intelligence and under the supervision of SP Akanya Agbogha, Commander of the Raiders Unit of the State Police Command, operatives swooped on the suspect in Asaba and recovered the substances.
Investigation is being intensified to trace the possible sources and distribution channels of the drugs, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the police in Agbor have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects who specialise in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public within Agbor and its environs.
The suspects, both males identified as Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested during a targeted operation, according to the statement.
Exhibits recovered from them include one hammer reportedly used in attacking victims, one brown face mask, and one short knife.
