Peter Obi and Chimamanda Adichie
By BONIFACE AKARAH
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, and Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nkanu, the son of Chimamanda, a woman he described as someone he regards as a sister, describing the loss as devastating.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Obi said he had been closely following the child’s illness since January 2, after Chimamanda first informed him, adding that the news of Nkanu’s death left him heartbroken.
“I have been following Nkanu's illness since my beloved sister, Chimamanda, first informed me on January 2nd,” Obi wrote. “I shared in their anxiety, prayed earnestly, and hoped for his recovery.”
Obi said the confirmation of the death came as a profound shock.
“The news I received yesterday morning was profoundly heartbreaking,” he stated.
Expressing sympathy for Chimamanda and her husband, Dr. Ivara, Obi said he was deeply pained by the grief they must be enduring.
“I am personally devastated, thinking of the immense pain she must be experiencing as a mother, along with her husband,” he said, extending his condolences to the family.
Obi prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and for the repose of the child’s soul.
“May God grant them the strength, comfort, and grace to bear this sorrow, and may Nkanu's saintly soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.
