The Police Command in Enugu State has busted an interstate vehicle theft syndicate operating between the state, Abia and Lagos State, during separate operations by the command.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday in Enugu.
Ndukwe said that police operatives recovered two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander Jeep stolen in different locations within Enugu.
He said that on Dec. 22, 2025, at about 8a.m., operatives attached to Emene Police Division, acting on credible information received by the Command’s Control Room regarding truck theft, swiftly mobilised to a location in Emene, Enugu.
“At the location, they recovered a yellow Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container and another white Mack truck without a registration number.
“The trucks had earlier been stolen from Aba, Abia State, and taken to a buyer before their recovery.
“Two male suspects were subsequently detained in connection with the crime,” he said.
The spokesman said that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspect is a Mack truck mechanic residing in Aba, Abia State, while another is a scrap dealer.
He noted that the owners of the recovered vehicles had since identified them, while further discreet investigations were ongoing to uncover other members of the syndicate.
Ndukwe said that similarly on Dec. 17, 2025, at about 6:40p.m., operatives attached to Uwani Police Division acted on credible information and also detained a male suspect.
He said that ’he suspect was detained while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu.
“The recovered vehicle—an ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number AGL 929 FX—was reportedly stolen in Isolo, Lagos State.
“The suspect and the recovered vehicle have since been handed over to the Police Division where the case was originally reported in Lagos State for conclusive investigation.” He said.
The spokesman said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, had commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance and swift response.
He reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and security in the New Year.
“We urge members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities,” he added. (NAN)
