Gov Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State
A hundred and forty-two people have been appointed as district heads across the twenty emirates and one chiefdom in Bauchi State, in a move aimed at strengthening traditional governance and grassroots administration.
All the appointees have been issued appointment letters to enable them to start functioning without further delays.
Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Bauchi, where he outlined the rationale and legal backing for the appointments.
According to him, the exercise was in line with the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2025, which provides the framework for the restructuring and recognition of traditional institutions in the state.
Abubakar Wabi explained that the implementation of the law resulted in the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms, necessitating the appointment of qualified district heads to effectively manage local affairs.
He noted that the appointments are expected to enhance coordination between traditional rulers and government authorities, particularly at the grassroots level.
The commission chairman then commended Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his leadership and support for reforms in the traditional institution, as well as other key stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the law.
He urged the newly appointed district heads to uphold the values of fairness, accountability, and service to their communities, adding that the state government remains committed to promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development through strong and responsive traditional institutions.
