Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have dismantled a suicide bombing network and intercepted suspected terrorists’ logistics during intensified operations in Adamawa State.
Zagazola learnt that the operations were part of ongoing cordon-and-search efforts targeting perpetrators and facilitators of the recent Gamboru Market Mosque suicide bombing.
According to the sources, OPHK troops, acting on sustained surveillance, conducted a coordinated cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Jan. 5.
During the operation, eight suspects were arrested, including two principal suspects believed to be key facilitators within the suicide bombing network.
“A search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal effects,” the sources said.
They added that the recovered items were undergoing forensic analysis to aid investigations, while a suspect already in custody identified the two principal suspects as those who supplied materials used in preparing the improvised explosive device (IED).
Other occupants of the residence were also said to have been linked to the terror network.
All the suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing detailed interrogation to enable further intelligence recovery before being handed over for continued investigation, the sources said.
In a related development, OPHK troops intercepted a large consignment of suspected terrorists’ logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area of the state, on Jan. 4.
The sources said the troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), estimated at about 1,125 litres, believed to have been smuggled to support terrorist activities.
“The suppliers reportedly fled on sighting the troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which are now in custody pending further action,” the sources said, adding that the operation was conducted without casualties.
They said the latest successes underscored OPHK’s resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks and bring perpetrators and collaborators to justice. (Zagazola)
