CP Danladi Isa, Abia State Commissioner of Police
Police in Abia State have confirmed that one person was killed and four others injured during a clash in Okon-Aku community, in Ohafia Local Government Area, on Sunday.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over community leadership.
Confirming the event in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Abia State Police Command, Maureen Chinaka, said that upon receiving information about the clash, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, immediately deployed operatives from the Ohafia Divisional Headquarters, supported by two tactical teams, to the area to restore and maintain law and order.
The statement added that the four persons injured in the clash were rushed to the hospital, where they are responding to treatment.
“One death was recorded during the incident. Peace and order have since been restored in the area.
“Community members have been admonished to embrace peace, avoid any breakdown of law and order and desist from taking laws into their hands,” the PPRO stated.
Maureen Chinaka further disclosed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently undergoing interrogation. They will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
She added that security monitoring of the area has continued to ensure the maintenance of peace in the community
