Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal
The Zamfara State Government has commenced construction of a trench boundary at the Gusau International Airport as part of measures to strengthen security around the facility.
The site for the project was formally handed over to the contractor by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in collaboration with the Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS), the Ministry of Security and Home Affairs and other security agencies, according to a statement issued by the ministry’s Information Officer, Jamilu Bello.
The trench boundary is intended to serve as a security barrier to ensure the safety of passengers and airport operations at the ongoing airport project.
Officials said the exercise underscored the state government’s commitment to providing adequate security infrastructure and ensuring compliance with national and international aviation safety standards.
The designated boundary area will accommodate security installations, trench works, perimeter fencing and other protective measures required for the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
Speaking during the handover, leader of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure delegation, Engr. Amiru Musa Anka, said the collaboration among ministries, agencies, security operatives and the contractor demonstrated the government’s resolve to fast-track completion of the airport in line with best practices.
Representatives of ZAGIS and the Ministry of Lands confirmed that all documentation, boundary delineation and land verification processes had been completed to guarantee a smooth and dispute-free execution of the project.
Security agencies also pledged to work closely with the contractor to ensure immediate commencement of the required security arrangements.
The statement added that the committee paid a courtesy visit to the airport’s host community leader, Uban Kasar Rawayya, Alhaji Rashi, who assured the community’s support and cooperation for the successful execution of the works.
In a related development, the committee also visited the Chairman of the Host Community/Compensation Committee, Arch. A. A. Gusau, who assured that compensation issues would be handled fairly and transparently in line with government regulations.
The ministry reaffirmed that the Gusau International Airport remains a flagship project of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, aimed at boosting economic activities, improving connectivity, enhancing security operations and attracting investment to the state. (Daily Trust)
