NANS threaten mass action against Giwa FC, says action could aid insurgency

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has vowed to declare a mass action against the management of Giwa Football Club for attempting to stop the Nigerian league from running, stating that such negative actions could aid insurgency in the country.

In a release made available to News Express on Friday and signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Sunday Ogbu, the Association appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Justice Ministry to look into the rules guiding league management in Nigeria, which is being twisted to continue to distract youth development through sports, saying that “this act could aid insurgency in the country.”

Decrying the development further, NANS said it is an unpatriotic act that must not be encouraged by the Nigerian Judiciary, adding that Giwa Football Club was expelled for their failure to play three consecutive matches.

The statement said that NANS is therefore, pledging its solidarity to the League Management Company, which has undergone appreciable reform that has changed the face of sports and national league management administration in Nigeria, especially in line with global best practices.

“We plead with you not to worry as Nigerian students are concluding plans to mobilise to give you solidarity as our own contribution towards promotion of peace in the country. Nigerian students will never allow the country to be destabilised even when the majority are presently going through economic difficulties,” the statement added.

NANS appealed to Giwa Football Club management to immediately apologise to the League Management Company and Nigerians for attempting to stop the Nigeria league.

It however, tasked Nigerians to learn to always give room for dialogue in their action and reaction to national issues, and Giwa Football Club management must not be an exception.
