Weapon recovered from suspect

An individual's bravery on Christmas day, 25th December, 2025 has led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber, Nicholas Nweke, by Police operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Central Police Station (CPS) Awka as the suspect tried to strip a victim of his valuables.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached the victim and demanded his phone and other valuables, but upon refusal, the suspect allegedly fired shots, during which pellets reportedly struck two unsuspecting individuals.
According to him, the wounded were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently stable and responding to treatment.
The statement partly reads: "The Police Responding Team met the victim struggling with the suspect over a firearm at the scene. Consequently, the suspect was successfully disarmed and arrested with the assistance of the Police,
"The team also recovered a pump-action rifle five (5) expended cartridges, one (1) Itel mobile phone and a cash sum of N1,200.00 (One thousand two hundred Naira) respectively."
The police spokesman added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
