The Plateau State Police Command says efforts are underway to rescue 28 travellers kidnapped on their way from Zak community in Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, Including men, women, and teenagers, were kidnapped on Sunday, while travelling to attend Maulud Nabbiy celebration in Sabon Layi village in the district.
On Tuesday, relatives of the victims disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted them, demanding a N1.5m ransom per victim, an amount they said they don’t have.
Wase Local Government Chairman, Muhammed Hamisu, had also on Tuesday said helicopters and soldiers had been deployed to locate the victims.
Reacting to the development in a statement on Wednesday, the state police command said the police were working hard to rescue the victims and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Alabo Alfred said, “The committee wishes to confirm that a kidnapping incident occurred on 21st December, 2025 involving unsuspecting citizens who were travelling to Gaji village, Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area.
“Upon receiving a report from a good Samaritan on the 22nd of December 2025, an intelligence‑driven team of detectives was promptly mobilised to the scene. Frantic efforts are currently underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc.
