The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has condemned an assault involving two of its members, describing the incident as unacceptable and contrary to the party’s values of discipline, democratic conduct and respect for the rule of law.

Reacting to a viral video circulating on social media, the party expressed concern over the conduct of an aide attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff and a serving councillor, both identified as APC members. The APC stressed that violence and unlawful behaviour have no place within the party or in public life.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Moses Kyari, the party announced that it had summoned all individuals involved in the incident as part of an internal process aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the altercation.

The party clarified that the action was carried out at the individual’s discretion, without the approval, knowledge, or authorisation of the party or any government office. It noted that taking the law into one’s hands violates party rules and will attract sanctions where culpability is established.

The APC also acknowledged the decision of the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, to suspend the aide involved, pending the outcome of investigations, describing the move as timely and in line with due process.

According to the party, the internal investigation will be thorough and transparent, guided by the APC constitution, relevant laws and established procedures.

It will also review all materials linked to the incident, including an audio recording alleged to have triggered the altercation.

Reassuring the public and other stakeholders, the APC said it would cooperate fully with lawful authorities and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken to prevent a recurrence. The party urged calm and restraint as the investigation continues, adding that it remains committed to accountability, justice and peaceful engagement. (The Sun)
