The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano.
He said the arrest was made as part of the command’s continuous efforts to prevent the introduction of prohibited items into custodial facilities.
Lawan said the suspects: Maryam Ali,19,and Hauwa Musa, 20-year-old, both residents of Kano State, were apprehended during routine security checks while attempting to gain access to the custodial centre on Dec. 21, 2025.
According to him, the women were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs, which preliminary investigations indicated were meant to be supplied to inmates within the facility.
Lawan said that the act constituted a serious violation of the NCoS regulations and is a criminal offence under the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He stated that the suspects had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, remains committed to maintaining strict security, discipline and zero-tolerance for all forms of illegal activities within and around custodial centres,” he said.
Lawan urged members of the public to adhere strictly with the rules and regulations governing visits to correctional facilities, warning that any breach would be dealt with in accordance with the law. (NAN)
