Mohammed Abdulrahman, Chairman, Wike-backed NWC of the PDP
The Mohammed Abdulrahman-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, fixed January 9, 2026 as the commencement date for the party’s congresses across states in the country.
The disclosure was made in Abuja after a meeting of the National Caretaker Committee chaired by Abdulrahman.
The committee said after the state congresses, plans leading to the party’s national convention would be unveiled.
The National Publicity Secretary of the camp, Haruna Junguda Mohammed, who read the communique of the meeting at a news conference, also said the PDP had ratified the dissolution of state working committees in 14 states.
The affected states are Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
According to him, caretaker committees will be constituted to oversee the affairs of the party in those states pending the outcome of the upcoming congresses.
The camp, which is backed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, held the meeting barely 24 hours after the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) concluded its consultations with PDP stakeholders as parts of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Turaki leadership, which emerged from the November 15 Ibadan convention, had met with former governors, ex-ministers, state chairmen, former NWC members and National Assembly caucuses to discuss the future of the party.
But, on Thursday, the Wike camp warned the Turaki-led NWC to stop parading itself as leading the PDP.
The communique partly read, “The National Caretaker Committee resolved to tell the teaming members of our party and the general public that PDP remains strong and indivisible.
“There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed.
“The National Caretaker Committee therefore warns anybody putting the image of the party to disrepute to refrain from that forthwith. It is important to let the public know that the claims making the rounds in the media that the Turaki illegal EXCO has been accepted by INEC are false.
“We, therefore, challenge Turaki to produce the code with which he uploaded his EXCO to the INEC portal.”
The camp expanded the membership of the caretaker committee.
The new appointments are Professor Adenike Ogunse (Women Leader); Engineer Deji Dohati (Deputy National Secretary); Senator Olaka Ogunwu (Treasurer); Honorable Jungu Haruna Mohammed (National Publicity Secretary); and Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki (Youth Leader). (Nigerian Tribune)
