Gov Fubara of Rivers State
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed optimism that his administration’s ongoing delivery of infrastructure across the state will reinforce public trust and translate into increased support for President Bola Tinubu.
Fubara spoke on Tuesday during the commissioning of the 5.94-kilometre Ihuowo–Ihuama Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
He noted that the road had previously served as a death trap and an epicentre of crime and kidnapping, adding that its completion would significantly improve security and safety in the area.
The governor said, “This particular corridor of the road in Ahoada East leading to Ihuama was a trap. Kidnapping was at a very high rate along this corridor. Let me not mention the concern of Eze Okpata (Paramount Ruler), who said our women lost their lives or their babies while trying to access the major road before getting to the hospital.
“Today, I’m talking about another security issue. This corridor was being used by those who do not want peace in our state. Criminals used this entrance to access another river before getting to the other side of the LGA.
“But I can say today that, with what we have done, it will no longer be business as usual for them (criminals).
“So, you understand why I don’t need to talk much about this road. It is simple to say thank you because I have not done anything unusual. It is about listening to the needs of our people and saying that, as a government, we must attend to those needs.”
He described the intervention as a basic responsibility of any people-oriented administration, adding that his government remains focused on service delivery to improve living conditions across the nooks and crannies of the state.
Fubara said that while every administration has a definite lifespan, his government would be remembered for its simplicity, openness to public concerns and prompt response to the needs of the people.
He also commended the contractor for the quality of work, saying, “The contractor has proven once again that with adequate release of funds, proper supervision and the cooperation of the host community, projects can be delivered.”
The governor further assured the traditional ruler of the area that requests for additional roads and other infrastructure would be granted, pledging sustained development interventions. (The PUNCH)
