A third candidate has emerged on the platform of the fractious Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Has emerged for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.
Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, one of the aspirants in the August 24 PDP governorship primaries, was okayed as a candidate yesterday by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which disqualified Dr. Tony Nwoye, the party’s preferred governorship candidate.
Ruling on a suit filed by Ukachukwu, Justice Suleiman Aliyu declared Nwoye ineligible to participate in the election on grounds of irregularity in his tax payment as prescribed in the electoral guideline on the PDP primaries.
The learned judge therefore declared Ukachukwu, who came second during the primaries, to be the duly nominated candidate to contest the November 16 governorship election.
Justice Aliyu also restrained Nwoye from parading himself as the party’s candidate, and the PDP National Working Committee and INEC from recognising Nwoye as the party’s candidate.
The judge ordered INEC to recognise and screen Ukachukwu as the rightful candidate for the election. He also ordered INEC to publish Ukachukwu’s name as the PDP candidate for the forthcoming election.
Senator Andy Uba, who emerged in another primary witnessed by INEC, also lays claim to being the rightful candidate of the party in the state. Several court rulings have ordered the PDP to recognise him as the candidate.
