Eric Chelle, Super Eagles Head Coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reportedly owes Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, at least three months’ unpaid salary.
According to BBC Sport journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, who disclosed the information via his X account on Tuesday, Chelle has not received his salary for three months.
Okeleji noted that Chelle has not yet lodged a formal complaint with the NFF.
“Chelle goes unpaid,” Okeleji @oluwashina posted on his X handle.
“Nigeria coach Eric Chelle is owed three months’ salary and bonuses ahead of the AFCON.”
“The Malian, who led the Super Eagles to the 2026 World Cup playoff, has, however, yet to make an official complaint to his employers (the NFF) about the non-payment of his salary.”
The revelation comes just two weeks before the kickoff of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on December 21.
Chelle is expected to submit his final 28-man AFCON squad by Wednesday, December 10.
Appointed in January 2025, the 48-year-old Malian guided Nigeria through a turbulent World Cup qualifying campaign.
Although the Super Eagles eventually missed out on the 2026 World Cup after losing the CAF playoff final to DR Congo
With AFCON 2025 approaching, the NFF will be under pressure to settle Chelle’s outstanding payments to ensure full focus within the camp as Nigeria hopes to win their fourth AFCON title. (Businessday)
