The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Works, has launched an unprecedented nationwide audit of 760 federal road projects valued at more than N36 trillion.
The large-scale exercise, which began on November 14, 2025, aims to verify the physical progress and performance of the projects as part of a renewed effort to strengthen transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s infrastructure spending.
According to a statement signed by ICPC spokesperson J. Okor Odey and made available on Monday to the press in Kano, the joint teams, comprising ICPC investigators, engineers from the Ministry of Works, and experts from professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), have been deployed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The special tracking operation seeks to achieve key national objectives, including enhancing fiscal governance, strengthening procurement integrity, enforcing contractor accountability, and recovering public funds lost to inflated or abandoned projects.
ICPC said the field teams are conducting detailed reviews of project sites, documentation, and deliverables to assess compliance with contractual specifications. After the state-level assessments, a consolidated national report will be produced to identify irregularities and recommend enforcement actions.
“This exercise represents a proactive, system-driven approach to safeguarding our national infrastructure investments,” the Commission stated. “Tracking 760 projects of this magnitude underscores our resolve to partner with government institutions in closing leakages, promoting accountability, and ensuring that public projects translate into tangible public good.”
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s public procurement and project execution systems through sustained collaboration and rigorous oversight. (TRIBUNE)
