Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has come under fire over alleged ingratitude.

In the forefront of the allegation is the leadership of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG).

Speaking recently during a congratulatory visit to Dr. Eshanekpe A Israel, the Head of Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC) and the Mayor of Urhobo Land, NDYFGG expressed disappointment and concern over the treatment meted out to them by Governor Oborevwori.

Comr. Lucky O.O Ukueku, the National President of the Forum, stated that they were used and dumped by Oborevwori after supporting him during his 2023 election, lamenting his poor reward system. Ukueku recalled when the Governor was a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), they visited him along with some Urhobo ex-agitators, and he assured them of his support and a workable synergy between his government and the group that would promote the growth and development of Delta youths when he gets to the office.

Ukueku expressed concern that the governor, whom they all worked for, could easily jettison all the promises he made to them and carry on as if they don’t matter. “It is very unfortunate that the one we put in our best for has denied us. The governor is inaccessible, he’s caged by the mafia in government house who were not there when we laboured to win our units for his emergence as governor,” he said.

In response, the Mayor of Urhobo Land, whom NDYFGG visited to felicitate with him on the recent Honorary Doctorate Award conferred on him by the America University of Management. The group also, revealed that he too was used and neglected by Oborevwori. He narrated how the Governor asked him to bring someone to fill a slot that he considered not befitting of his status in view of all his investments in the emergence of the governor, noting that the governor makes one believe that it is in his character to betray his loyal friends.

The Mayor, who Is also an ex-militant Leader in the Niger Delta Region, had mobilized support from Urhobo Land and other communities for the Governor’s election, investing hugely into the then Oborevwori 2023 Project. He expressed disappointment that the Governor could treat him this way, despite his significant contributions to the Governor’s victory.

The NDYFGG leadership questioned the Governor’s priorities, wondering if he values only certain individuals or groups at the detriment of others. They urged the Governor to reconsider his approach and recognize the efforts of dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly and even staked their lives for his success.

The group called on the Governor to acknowledge and appreciate his supporters, ensuring their efforts are valued and rewarded. They demanded that the Governor takes immediate action to address the concerns of his supporters, adding that loyalty requires reward.

Comr. Ukueku wondered why the Governor chose to neglect people like them, making their opponents in the past election turn them into a laughing stock. The NDYFGG leadership has vowed to continue to speak out against the Governor’s treatment of his supporters and to fight for their rights and recognition.
