Former Plateau Governors united behind Mutfwang’s peace efforts – Dariye

Senator Joshua Dariye has assured Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the collective support of all former governors of Plateau State as the administration pursues peace, healing, and development across the state.

Dariye, who governed Plateau between 1999 and 2007, gave the assurance on Sunday night during the final session of the Plateau State Christmas Carol and Praise Festival held in Jos.

Speaking before thousands of worshippers at the event—which drew an impressive attendance, including former governors, General Lawrence Onoja (rtd), and Senator Dariye himself—he emphasized that the quest for stability and progress in Plateau must rise above political affiliations. Also present were the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, serving and retired jurists, and senior members of the clergy.

Declaring that the duty to support the sitting governor is a collective moral obligation, Dariye said:

“On behalf of all of us who have had the opportunity to govern Plateau, we have no choice but to support the Governor of Plateau—whether you voted for him or you didn’t vote for him,” he declared, drawing wild applause from the crowd.

“You have to give him the opportunity to govern until his tenure is over. My brother, fear not… fear not,” he added, turning to Governor Mutfwang.

Dariye also commended the Christmas carol festival, describing it as a spiritual anchor for a state that has endured years of conflict and tension.

“For Plateau that has passed through a lot of crises and challenges, if we don’t turn to God, we have no option,” he said.

Drawing from scripture, he offered words of reassurance to citizens: “My encouragement tonight is in Exodus 14:13–14. The Egyptians we see today, we shall see them no more.”
