Shaibu orders revalidation of NIS certificates

NIS MD, Comrade Philip Shaibu

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (DG/CEO NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has ordered a revalidation of certificates obtained in the institute.

He said that from the second quarter of next year 2026, anybody that passed through the NIS must return to the institute for revalidation.

The Immediate past deputy governor of Edo State said that any of these certificates revalidated will be in the databank of the institute, warning that anybody who did not find his name on its website means that their certificates are not from the NIS.

He hinged the decision on the determination to align the activities of the institute towards ensuring that its certificates are in line with the acceptable current global practice and standard.

The NIS boss spoke on the sideline in Calabar at the 2nd National Council on Sports meeting with the theme: “The Business of Sports: Creating Jobs, Wealth and Utility under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

While revealing that the institute is cleaning up its database to revalidate all certificates, argued that it is in line with ensuring that NIS certificates are accepted globally.

“We are cleaning up our database and data bank. From the second quarter of 2026, anybody that passed through the NIS must come back for revalidation.

“Any of these certificates we revalidate will be in our databank, and anyone who does not find his name on our website means that certificate is not from NIS.

“We are standardizing all our activities to make it in line with global practice and ensure that our certificates are acceptable globally,” he said.

Shaibu also disclosed that the curriculum of the institute has been overhauled, and the institute has brought in courses like diving, scouting, and sports physiotherapy, among others.

The DG also said the institute is also bringing back its core duties, which includes monitoring players to check their performance metabolism and nutrition to bring out the best in the athletes. (The Sun)
