ADC Chieftain, Akuma
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has revealed the reasons behind the escalation of abduction of college students in recent weeks in the country.
Recall that in the last one week, more than 400 college students were abducted from Kebbi and Niger states.
According to him, like Hamas, the terrorists operating in Nigeria want to use the students as human shield to stop American soldiers from attacking them when they come to Nigeria.
He said that it is the same tactic that terrorist organizations all over the world adopt to avoid being targeted.
According to him, our security ought to have known this and get prepared by beefing up security around academic institutions of learning.
Speaking further, he said that the terrorists know that when they use children as shields, soldiers would not attack them because it would draw international condemnation.
However, he said that Boko Haram and ISWAP are abducting children should not stop Donald Trump from sending soldiers if Nigerian government cannot find solution to the insecurity bedevilling the country.
Akuma said that the complicit being witnessed in most of the abductions also show that the soldiers are demoralized because of the corrupt and inept leadership at the top.
He said that there is no inspiration coming from the top to encourage them to continue to risk their lives for the country.
Furthermore, he said that it is because of this that Nigerians are earnestly yearning for change in the leadership of the country.
His words: “I want to say without fear of contradiction that since October 1st 1960 till date, Nigeria has never been terrorized and traumatized like last week. From Sunday to Sunday, there was no day that there was no abduction of children in the northern part of the country by the terrorists whose intention is to use them as human shields when American soldiers come to Nigeria. What is happening is nothing but failure of leadership. The number one responsibility of any government all over the world is protection of lives and properties and there is no doubt that the administration of All Progressives Congress has failed woefully in that regards and in fact in every other regard. Children are being abducted on a daily basis and parents are being traumatized. There is no way we will continue like this.”
According to Akuma, the implication of the college student abductions is that it would impact negatively on our educational system since children would start having phobia for going to school.
He said that as a result of that, the number of out of school children would triple, adding that parents would even be seeing the abduction as justification for not sending their children to school.
According to him, since Nigerian government has no capacity to tackle the insecurity in the country, it should seek foreign collaboration and forget the issue of sovereignty.
