Troops of the North East Joint Task Force ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ (OPHK) have chased Boko Haram terrorists out of a community in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.

The insurgents stormed the town, burning down houses and vehicles, including that of civilian JTF.

However, troops responded swiftly and sent the terrorists out of the town.

Confirming the incident, the Executive Chairman of Magumeri, Hon. Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, said the assailants sneaked into the town on Saturday night.

“The terrorists fled out of the town at about 3:00am on Sunday after they were overwhelmed. Unfortunately, they set ablaze residential houses and other property. But no life was lost.

“Our gallant troops and members of Civilian JTF, Hunters and Volunteers responded to distress calls and successfully repelled the rampaging terrorists,” he said.

He commended the security operatives for the timely and well coordinated response, adding that “normalcy gradually returns in the town”.

Recently, Boko Haram and ISWAP members have intensified attacks on military and civilian locations across Borno.

In two of the recent attacks, the military lost two commanding officers that led troops to clearance operations in Bama and Damboa local government areas.

However, with the weeklong visits of Army, Airforce Chiefs to the theatre, a change of coordinated strategy was said to have been adopted to clear the terrorists.

Also, troops in the theatre had, during the separate visits, assured the top military brass of their commitment to protect lives and property in the North-East, while the military chiefs also promised to improve the welfare of the frontline troops. (Daily Trust)
