A tricycle operator was over the weekend burnt to death following a tragic fire incident in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State with several shops destroyed.

Information has it that the incident happened on Friday, November 21, 2025, at about 5:45pm after a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) reportedly collided with a car and a tricycle along Udoji Road, close to the Ekwusigo Local Government Secretariat.

The Impact was said to have sparked an intense fire that quickly spread across the area.

A press statement released by the Media and Publicity unit of the Anambra State Fire Service said it received a distress call immediately after the crash and swiftly mobilized three firefighting trucks to the scene.

The statement read in part, “The gallant firefighters deployed to the scene arrived promptly and battled the flames with professional precision, successfully extinguishing the inferno before it could escalate further.”

“Despite the rapid intervention, one person, a tricycle (keke) operator, lost his life in the fire.

The inferno also affected no fewer than six shops situated close to the crash site, resulting in significant property loss for traders in the area.

While noting that its timely response prevented a wider tragedy, considering the volatile nature of PMS and the heavy human and commercial activity along the busy Udoji corridor, the Anambra State Fire Service further stated that further assessments were ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.

It further reiterated Its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state.
