INEC disowns fake document on PDP NWC resolutions, Ekiti governorship primary

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a document circulating on social media alleging that the Commission approved resolutions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) and postponed the party’s Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.

In a statement by the Commission, issued on Friday, signed by Victoria Eta-Messi, director, Voter Education and Publicity, the Commission described the document—dated November 10, 2025—as fake, stating that it did not originate from the Secretary to the Commission or any official INEC channel.

According to INEC, preliminary investigations revealed that the signature of the Commission Secretary was forged by “unscrupulous elements,” with the aim of misleading the public.

INEC urged political parties, the media, and the general public to disregard the document in its entirety, stressing that the circulation of forged official communication constitutes a serious electoral offence and undermines public trust.

The Commission also warned individuals involved in such “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to desist, noting that it is working with security agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. (BusinessDay)
