The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year old serial impostor, Victor Cletus, who allegedly defrauded and sexually exploited a young female victim under the guise of being a medical doctor.
Cletus, eventually discovered to be a cleaner with the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo was alleged to have presented himself as a surgeon with the university to his victim on Snapchat.
The victim was said to have believed Cletus and went ahead to inform him of her medical concerns involving removing of lump from her breast.
However, rather than offering any medical help, the fake doctor was alleged to have sexually abused her victim and also stole money from her Opay account.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
Odutola said that Cletus arrest followed a report lodged by the victim, who narrated how the suspect contacted her on Snapchat and falsely presented himself as a surgeon at Babcock University Teaching Hospital
She explained that “Believing his fabricated credentials, she confided in him a medical concern involving a lump in her right breast.
“Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the suspect fraudulently demanded an unspecified amount of money as a supposed operation fee, and deceitfully instructed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on 18/11/2025.
“Instead of offering any medical help, he sexually abused her and also stole money from her Opay account.
“The victim’s suspicion grew the following day when the fake doctor persisted in demanding sexual intimacy without conducting any medical procedure.
“She independently contacted Babcock University Teaching Hospital and was shocked to learn that Victor Cletus is not a doctor but a cleaner in the hospital. The suspect is being investigated and will be prosecuted accordingly.”
The command has therefore warned the public—especially young females—to exercise heightened caution on social media platforms, where criminals disguise themselves with false identities to lure, manipulate and extort innocent persons
The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned this heinous act and warned online predators and criminal impostors that the command will not tolerate any form of exploitation, deception, or sexual violence against females.
Ogunlowo urged young females to remain circumspect and be weary of trusting strangers with personal or medical information online.
The command reiterated his steadfastness and commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting individuals who weaponise social media platforms to perpetrate crimes. (PUNCH)
