The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that the senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, remains a bona fide member of the party in Ogun State.
The position of the party’s highest administrative organ was conveyed to the Ogun State Chairman of the party in a letter dated November 17 and signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
Sources within the Ogun State chapter confirmed that the contention for the party’s ticket for Ogun East senatorial district ahead of the 2027 between Governor Dapo Abiodun and Daniel – who currently represent the district in the Red Chamber, may have been responsible for the alleged indefinite suspension of the former governor.
But the national leadership of the party stated in the letter that the statutory body saddled with the responsibility to look into such matters was yet to deliberate or investigate any alleged anti-party activities against Daniel.
The NWC stated that Daniel remains a member of the party and directed organs of the party in the state not to issue any correspondence until such a time that the highest administrative organ would have investigated and deliberated on the alleged suspension.
The statement reads: “I bring you compliments from the National Secretariat of our great party and write to inform you that the Party has been inundated with the recent notice of suspension of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.
“Please, take note that the NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.
“Consequent upon this, you are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence on this matter. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.
But the Executive Committee of the APC in Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, insisted that Daniel remained suspended.
A statement by the Chairman of APC Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, Adebayo Ismail, and the Secretary, Durojaiye Oluwole, said in line with the party’s constitution, the NWC of the party cannot issue any directive to review, nullify, set aside, or reverse the valid suspension earlier imposed on Daniel by the appropriate party organs in Ogun State.
The state chapter dismissed the statement by MJS Partners on behalf of Senator Daniel in response to a letter from the APC national secretariat, dated November 17. (THE NATION)
