By PETER ANOSIKE

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has said that the brand-new National Headquarters of the party is a sure sign that they are ready for serious business.

Recall that the party on Monday, November 17, 2025, unveiled its brand-new National Headquarters which is located at Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent Wuse 2, Abuja.

Reacting to the development, Akuma said that the National Headquarters simply shows that the party is not a fluke, but rather one that has come to stay.

According to him, with what is currently going on in the country, it has become crystal clear that ADC is the way to go.

He said that for those who are thinking that the opposition is not active, a lot are being done to reduce the suffering of the Nigerian masses.

For instance, he said the recent Federal Government’s reversal of its plan to impose a 15 percent import duty on petrol and diesel was as a result of the pressure from ADC.

He said that on October 31, 2025, ADC in a statement warned the federal government that the proposed tariff would deepen the hardship already created by the removal of subsidy and devaluation of our currency.

According to him, had the proposal gone through, the hardship in the country would have worsen because, petrol would gone beyond N1,000 per litre, adding that life would have become more unbearable to families, commuters, transporters, farmers, and small businesses who are already struggling under the weight of fuel subsidy removal.

He said that in the last two years, President Bola Tinubu’s government has reversed its policies seven times.

According to him, that simply showed that it is learning on the job.

“I want to hail the African Democratic Congress for the brand new national secretariat in the heart of Abuja, Wuse 2 to be precise. It is a sure sign that we are ready for serious business. The truth is that there is no way the country can continue this way. There is dire need for change in leadership. Every time Nigeria is mentioned, it is for the wrong reason. The government in power has shown that it is learning on the job and that is the reason why in just two years it has reversed its policies seven times, because all of them are anti-people. Even the latest reversal which is the proposed 15 per cent import duty on fuel and diesel was as a result of the pressure that we mounted, knowing what the implication on the Nigerian people who is already gone through a lot,” Akuma said.
